Fish Creek Pass is one of those places that is in the middle “of” or on the way “to” another destination. It acts as a gate way to Buttermilk Ridge to the north, Lake Chelan and the rest of the Sawtooth Range to the south, Star Peak in an easterly direction and Courtney Peak toward the west. This small pass drops off quickly on both sides and is more of a low spot between the two summits directly north of the East Fork of Fish

Enchantment Trip – Part lll

Large flat topped rocks make a great place to toss your bag and mat to sleep under the stars. The rocks radiate heat most of the night and if the temperature is moderate, there isn’t much of a change as it gets cooler. The stars intensly filled the night sky as I drifted off to sleep, reminding me why I like being in the backcountry. The intrusion of artifical light from the city doesn’t deminish the brilliance of the stars. The night seems to go quickly when you have had good day of climbing, unless you are sitting unexpectedly on a ledge and then dawn can’t come fast enough.
